BRIEF PROGRAM

The course is concerned with theory of the behaviour of the most used electrical machines. The main topics are the following.
TRANSFORMERS. Basic definitions and construction elements, principle of operation, machine equations, equivalent circuits and performance. Unbalanced duty of three-phase transformers, parallel operation, autotransformers, triple-wound transformers, test transformers. Machine parameter calculation.
General information on AC machines. Windings of alternating current machines.
INDUCTION MACHINES. Rotating magnetic field, equivalent circuits, torque characteristics. Starting of three-phase induction motors, speed control. Single-phase induction motors. Machine parameter identification.
SYNCHRONOUS MACHINES. Basic types of synchronous machine and operating principle, armature reaction, voltage diagrams, magnetic saturation effects, torque production, parallel operation, oscillations of synchronous machines. Parameter calculation.
DC MACHINES. Basic types of DC machines, magnetic circuit, windings, emf calculation, machine equations. Armature reaction, commutation, compoles, compensating windings. Characteristics of DC generators and motors.
LINEAR MACHINES. Linear induction motors, DC linear actuators.
